Formed last year, the Columbus, OH based death metal band Death of an Era is the latest addition to join the Artery Recordings, the joint venture between The Artery Foundation and Razor & Tie. After a year supporting their self-released Reviler EP, this collective of high school friends had risen out of the Ohio underground and into the national spotlight. Alternative Press featured them in AP&R, and they carved out a rabid core of fans through relentless touring and an incomparable sound.  Confronting everything from child abuse and  drug addiction to deceit and bullying head-on, the group—Daniel Simpson [vocals], Nathan Stewart [guitar], Dustin Colling [guitar], and brothers Chris [bass] and Michael Cooper [drums]—offer catharsis in the face of chaos.

AUTOPSY “THE HEADLESS RITUAL” COMING THIS JULY

Cover art + track list revealed

KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERA

CALIFORNIA – July 2 will mark the return of Autopsy, the U.S. master of brutality, with the band’s sixth studio opus of horror and all-out madness, The Headless Ritual, on Peaceville Records.

Featuring the returning quartet of Chris Reifert, Eric Cutler, Danny Coralles, and Joe Trevisano,The Headless Ritual is a relentless monster of violent and brutal death metal mastery delivered in the unmistakable Autopsy style of chaotic riffing, insane solos and doom-filled interludes, all served with the band’s unhinged brand of vocal sickness. The album was recorded and mixed April 2013 at Fantasy Studios, San Francisco, Calif. with Adam Munoz, and features cover artwork by renowned artist Joe Petagno (Motörhead, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin).

Said drummer/vocalist Chris Reifert, “Expect nothing less than the monstrous brutality that Autopsy has been known to offer. Laurels will not be rested upon, trends will not be followed and mercy will not be shown. Mark your calendars for June and pick out a coffin to lie down and die in. Darkness and death await…”

The track listing for The Headless Ritual is…

01. SLAUGHTER AT BEAST HOUSE
02. MANGLED FAR BELOW
03. SHE IS A FUNERAL
04. COFFIN CRAWLERS
05. WHEN HAMMER MEETS BONE
06. THORNS AND ASHES
07. ARCH CADAVER
08. FLESH TURNS TO DUST
09. RUNNING FROM THE GOATHEAD
10. THE HEADLESS RITUAL

Among the early breed of U.S. death metal pioneers, Autopsy formed in 1987 in the San Francisco Bay Area and released four albums on Peaceville Records. Beginning with the classic debut Severed Survival in 1989, the group disbanded in 1995 with members going on to form Abscess. Autopsy triumphantly and officially returned from the grave after a 15 year hiatus with the 2010 EP, ‘The Tomb Within,’ followed by the release of the band’s widely acclaimed fifth studio album, Macabre Eternal in 2011.

PHILIP H. ANSELMO Talks Record Store Day and the Comeback of Vinyl Records with FORBES MAGAZINE‏

PHILIP H. ANSELMO Talks Record Store Day and the Comeback of Vinyl Records with FORBES MAGAZINE

Earlier this week, Forbes Magazine (Forbes.com) posted an in-depth piece on the comeback of vinyl and Record Store Day, written by Tim Clark. In a time where people are quick to label the current state of the music industry as “failing” or “experiencing a downfall”, Tim Clark points out that the independent record store experience illustrates otherwise.

Down vocalist and Housecore Records CEO Philip H. Anselmo was interviewed for the piece, and gave his personal thoughts on the rise in record store activity and how it supports growth in the music business and community. As one of the leading voices of the recent indie label and independent music takeover, Forbes looked to Anselmo has a voice of authority.

From Forbes piece: “When he was younger, Anselmo used to constantly scour underground record stores and to this day still believes in the vinyl format. “Record Store Day promotes this type of passion of having the actual product in your hand instead of just a download,” said Anselmo. “I love having the full album, art, lyrics and I think vinyl sounds better. And as a label owner, it makes me happy to see that people slowly but surely want to have this tangible copy in their hands instead of a free [expletive] download, which is driving me [expletive] bananas.”

Record Store Day is now celebrated on the third Saturday every April is the one day that all of the independently owned record stores come together with artists to celebrate the art of music. Forbes calls Record Store Day, “an industry phenomenon.”

The song that best defines the spirit of who I am

During a discussion yesterday about the impact of music on our lives the topic of defining songs came up. The question was posed “What single song defines who you are?” I pondered this question for a bit and came to only one conclusion, Rainbow- “Long Live Rock N’ Roll”. It simply states my feelings on the music I love. There is not a second of any day when a song is not running through my head. Someone once told me that if they were to cut me music notes would bleed out of me. “Long Live Rock N’ Roll” indeed!

KILLSWITCH ENGAGE – Disarm The Descent CD review

disarmthedescent20131

http://www.killswitchengage.com/

https://www.facebook.com/killswitchengage?ref=ts&fref=ts

Nothing against Killswitch Engage but they had kind of fell off of my radar prior to the release of Disarm The Descent. It’s not as if they were terrible or anything but by the time we got to the self titled KSE CD I had really lost interest. When the news came out that Jesse Leach had returned to the band I found it exciting as he had always been my preferred vocalist. Let’s get into the record.

     1. The Hell In Me

2. Beyond The Flames

3. The New Awakening

4. In Due Time

5. A Tribute To The Fallen

6. Turning Point

7. All We Have

8. You Don’t Bleed For Me

9. The Call

10. No End In Sight

11. Always

12. Time Will Not Remain

Well alright!!! Right away you are punched in the chest by “The Hell In Me” and the pummeling does not stop until “Time Will Not Remain is over, leaving you breathless and wanting more. KSE is back, and in a big way. These twelve tracks are brutal and yet melodic at the same time. Upon subsequent listens there is so much to be found in the layering depths of this CD. It seems as if new life had been breathed back into KSE. It also seems as thought the band has matured in their songwriting and playing style. The album was produced by Adam Dutkiewicz and mixed by Andy Sneap. I, for one, am glad to see KILLSWITCH ENGAGE back to kick our asses into oblivion!!!!
