SEATTLE, WA – Tommy Rogers, vocalist for progressive metal band Between the Buried and Me, and producer Jamie King will host a free, two-day CreativeLive “Studio Pass” workshop next week on Monday, December 8 and Tuesday, December 9 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. PST (12 p.m. – 7 p.m. EST). In this class, Rogers and King will share their signature approach to production – how things should run in a studio to get a final track that sounds like the band on its best day, but not over-produced. Viewers will also get a behind-the-scenes look as Rogers and King track drums, bass, vocals and guitar for a song from Rogers’s latest solo album Modern Noise. Head over to CreativeLive ‘Music & Audio’ at:https://www.creativelive.com/courses/studio-pass-tommy-rogers-jamie-king for more information and to enroll for free today.

Since its inception in 2010, CreativeLive has broadcast more than 600 courses to more than 2 million students worldwide. Now streaming live from studios in Seattle and San Francisco, CreativeLive hosts workshops in photography, video, design, business, audio, music, and software training, unlocking previously closed doors by making dynamic education accessible to everyone.

Tommy Rogers is the lead singer and keyboardist for Between the Buried and Me, a progressive metal band from N.C. Since starting the band in 2000 with former members of the metalcore band Prayer for Cleansing, Rogers has recorded eight studio albums and two live DVDs and toured internationally with bands ranging from Opeth and Dream Theater to Meshuggah and Coheed and Cambria. In 2011, Rogers released Pulse, his first solo album as Thomas Giles on Metal Blade. In 2014, he scored his first full-length feature film, due out in 2015, and recently released Modern Noise, the follow up to Pulse, on Metal Blade Records.

Jamie King is a highly sought after record producer, mixing and mastering engineer from Winston-Salem, N.C. He is best known for his work with Between the Buried and Me, producing most of their studio LPs. King has been recording since 1996 and has an extensive list of credits in metal and hard rock, producing and mixing albums for bands like The Contortionist, Scale the Summit, He is Legend, Alesana and A Skylit Drive. Labels like Metal Blade, Victory, Prosthetic, Solid State/Tooth and Nail, Tribunal and Sensory seek out King for his ability to create sonically discreet mixes with real, musical dynamics that still match the loudness demanded by modern rock and metal standards. King primarily works out of his private project studio, The Basement Recording NC, and occasionally offers workshops on recording theory and practice.

image001

For the past few years, William Francis has been opening the eyes (and ears) of fans new and old with his haunting electronic “dark wave” project WILLIAM CONTROL. Now, with three full-length albums, an EP, a DVD and several live performances under his belt, the singer, writer, producer and engineer (also known around the world as the wickedly-striking frontman for scene giants Aiden),  has taken his project out on the road with his friends in Black Veil Brides on their “The Church of the Wild Ones” tour.

Infusing a new wave sensibility reminiscent of New OrderBauhausGary Numan, and Depeche Mode with a reinvented twist of his own, WILLIAM CONTROL has already proven to be an accepted, unique, and unrelenting addition to the Black Veil Brides tour.

The latest album to come out of the WILLIAM CONTROL solo project, 2012’s Silentium Amoris, melds together dark, cinematic themes with experimental synth pop sounds.  While alarmingly melancholic and moody, it also evokes an unrelenting fury, as well as aggressive elements of the industrial dance sound. William also just released a 90-minute live DVD entitled William Control – Live in London Town. The DVD, shot over the course of three days in London, England, and features 20 tracks, including a brand new unreleased song.

William has two other albums (Hate CultureNoir) and an EP (Novus Ordo Seclorum) out now. He has also had select tracks featured on soundtracks for Saw V, Underworld: Rise of the Lycans and Underworld: Awakening and has appeared as a guest vocalist on tracks byThe UsedVampires Everywhere! and more.

You can purchase all WILLIAM CONTROL releases via iTunes, Amazon and other digital retailers.

YES – A BAND NEAR AND DEAR TO ME

I was seven years old when I first heard “Starship Trooper”. I was enraptured by it, it took me away to the stars and beyond. My mom turned me on to Yes and I was hooked. I have remained a fan throughout the years.

Formed in 1968, by Chris Squire, Yes has been cutting edge ever since. They have risen from obscurity, to the heights of success. There have been many different lineups throughout the years with some outstanding musicians.

The most successful lineup (in my opinion) consisted of: Jon Anderson – lead vocals, percussion, guitar, harp, various others, Chris Squire – bass, backing vocals, various others, Steve Howe – guitars, backing vocals, various others, Bill Bruford – drums, percussion, various others, Rick Wakeman – keyboards, piano, Hammond organ, Mellotron, various others.

During the 80’s they had hits from the lineup of: Jon Anderson – (vocals), Tony Kaye – (Keyboards), Trevor Rabin – (Guitars, vocals, additional keyboards), Chris Squire – (Bass, vocals), Alan White – (Drums, percussion, backing vocals). This lineup gave us hits like: “Owner of a Lonely Heart”, “It Can Happen”, “Leave It”, and “Changes”

The current lineup of Yes consists of: Chris Squire – (bass, backing vocals, various others), Steve Howe – (guitars, backing vocals, various others), Alan White – (drums, percussion, backing vocals, various others), Geoff Downes – (keyboards), Jon Davison – (lead vocals, various others)

yes-2012-lineup

From 1 March to 12 April 2013, Yes will embark on their Spring 2013 North American tour. The band will play three albums a night for the first time in their entirety: The Yes Album, Close to the Edge and Going for the One. During the Spring 2013 North American tour, Yes will lead a progressive-rock themed cruise titled Cruise to the Edge from 25 to 30 March 2013. Yes will also be going into the studio in the fall 2013 to record a new album, their 21st studio album and the first with Jon Davison.

The progressive rock music of Yes deserves a listen.
