KYNG TO RELEASE NEW STUDIO ALBUM BURN THE SERUM ON APRIL 15TH ON RAZOR & TIE
Hear First Track “Burn The Serum” Now On Revolver
(New York, NY) – Southern California rock trio Kyng will release their new studio album, Burn The Serum (Razor & Tie ) on April 15th.  Burn The Serum was produced by Andrew Alekel(Foo Fighters, No Doubt, Queens of The Stone Age, Clutch) and James A. Rota (Sound City) and was recorded at Grandmaster Recorders LTD and Sword & Shield in Hollywood, CA as well as at Studio 606 in Northridge, CA.
Hear the first song off the album “Burn The Serum” now at Revolver.
Kyng’s Eddie Veliz explains the song, “Burn The Serum is one of the best songs that the guys and I have written so far. It’s extremely honest in the subject matter and the riff.”
On their second full-length album and first for Razor & Tie, the band harks back to the essence of heavy rock ‘n’ roll, forging thunderous percussion to lightning hot riffs driven by a divine vocal howl. At the same time, they keep their eyes wide open towards the future. Kyng find grandiosity in simplicity. The Los Angeles outfit may only boast three members—Eddie Veliz [vocals/guitar], Pepe Clarke [drums], and Tony Castaneda [bass/backup vocals]—but their collective roar could easily tip the Southern California Richter Scale.
Formed in 2008, Kyng broke out of the City of Angels in 2011 with the group’s independent debut Trampled Sun.  The album landed shining critical acclaim for its “California Heavy” sound merging the metallic meanderings of Soundgarden and Queens of the Stone Age with the timeless scope of Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin. They hit the road with everybody from The Sword and Clutch to Trivium and Megadeth—even being picked to play at Metallica’s first-everOrion Music + More festival. Loudwire raved, “a hard hitting fusion of rocking goodness,” andUltimate-Guitar added, “if they keep churning out records as good as Trampled Sun, they will be mentioned right up there with Mastodon and the like.”
KYNG wrapped up 2013 with the Hellpop Tour with In This MomentMotionless In Whiteand All Hail The Yeti and will hit the road in 2014 to support of Burn The Serum (tour dates below).  .

What in the F@#K happened to radio?

551660_457881100919267_1423214875_n (1)

Growing up in the 70’s and 80’s was a different musical experience than today. Radio was a magical and wonderful friend to many of us, to some it was our best friend. I remember that the “rock” radio stations would play all that fell in to that genre. You would hear it all from ABBA to ZZ Top, and everything in between. The experience was all encompassing and you were exposed to music you might have otherwise never had the chance to hear. I grew to know and love bands from those radio days, I also learned to appreciate a lot of music even though I might not have favored it.

Radio was a wonderful thing in that the diversity was much greater due to the creative control the DJ’s used to have. The DJ was your friend in music, they were your cool friend that had great music. I loved the fact that the DJ could introduce you to music that they were into. They were your friend that if you were having a bad day, good day, a whatever day, you could call them and request a song to match your mood and they would play it. I would stay up into the wee hours listening and discovering the joy of music and the tidbits of trivia the DJ’s would throw out at us.

The radio DJ of old was a larger than life character that people admired and envied. They talked to the musicians and sometimes you could call in with your questions as well.  It was all about the music, not sports, not movie stars, not politics, there were talk radio stations for that. There giveaways and contests that were local, I remember winning the entire Queen library on vinyl one time in 1980. There was no “be the 100th national caller” to win.

Radio, not the internet, not satellite, mp3 players, was truly enjoyable. It was available freely everywhere. Cruising in your car , hanging by the pool, the lake, at a party, or whatever, the radio was a necessity.

You could hear local bands on the radio as well. It really was a time about the music and the love of it. Radio gave bands a chance to be heard and shared.

We need to put music back into the ears and lives of the people who love it. There are people out there who think like I do and I know it. I miss the radio stations with the DJ’s with cool names and cool music. I miss being able to listen to the radio and not hear the same 50 songs over and over. I miss the events that the radio stations used to have. I miss it being about the love of music.

To those DJ’s who were a part of those days, thank you from the bottom of my heart.

SIGHT OF EMPTINESS Announce January 21st Release Date for ‘Instincts’;

Video For “Essence” Online Now!

ImageProxy (1)

Costa Rica’s finest musical export is ready to take on the world! SIGHT OF EMPTINESS has been hard at work towards making an impact on the global metal scene since the release of ‘Trust Is A Disease’ in 2007 – the same year the band won the Bloodstock Unsigned Contest and played the mainstage of Bloodstock Open Air.

Since then, SIGHT OF EMPTINESS has been hard at work. Releasing another album independently in 2009 and supporting heavyweights such as Megadeth, At The Gates, Obituary and more — even playing national concerts for the Costa Rican government to over 15,000 people and being invited back to play Bloodstock Open Air in 2012, without entering a contest.

The band’s hard work culminates now, as they prepare to unleash their third full length album ‘Instincts’ on January 21st!

‘Instincts’ is a heavy-hitting dose of melodic death metal that will hit home with fans of Amon Amarth, At The Gates, In Flames and the like. It is also a very targeted effort to reach the worldwide metal masses. Produced by  Thomas “Plec” Johansson (Watain, Scar Symmetry, etc), ‘Instincts’ features a who’s who of incredible musicians guesting on the album. Tracks featuring Glen Drover (Megadeth, King Diamond), Ralph Santolla (Deicide, Iced Earth), Christian Alvestam (Scar Symmetry) and Whitfield Crane (Ugly Kid Joe) make the album standout on looks alone, but the songs themselves will have fans coming back for more!

Not only have SIGHT OF EMPTINESS caught the attention of their peers, but also the Costa Rican government as ‘Instincts’ also features a guest appearance of Manuel Obregon, the Minister of Culture & Youth for Costa Rica’s government.

To get your first tastes of ‘Instincts’, check out the first video from the album for the track “Essence” (featuring Whitfield Crane of Ugly Kid Joe)” at the following location:

Kirk Hammett Announces Encore Performance with EXODUS at the Upcoming Kirk Von Hammett’s FEAR FestEvil!‏

Kirk Hammett Announces Encore Performance with EXODUS at the Upcoming FEAR FestEvil!

image001

Just when you thought things couldn’t get more brutal…

Recently, Bay Area thrash legends EXODUS announced that they will perform at the very first FEAR FestEvil, taking place on February 7 at Regency Ballroom (located at 1300 Van Ness Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94108).

Today, new information has surfaced – FEAR FestEvil creator and Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett has announced that he will not only perform at the festival himself, but will also take part in a special encore performance with a blast from his past – that’s right, EXODUS! This is a can’t-miss event!

Guitarist Gary Holt adds, “EXODUS is stoked as fuck to announce that none other than Kirk Von Hammett himself will be jamming with us during our encore at FEAR FestEvil! What song? Hmm, that remains to be seen! I guess you will have to be there to find out!

Don’t miss this once-in-a-lifetime moment! For more information about the fest and to buy tickets, visithttp://www.fearfestevil.com/.

When it comes to thrash metal, in particular Bay Area thrash, EXODUS are one
of the true Godfathers. Formed in 1980 by guitarist Tim Agnello, drummer Tom
Hunting, bassist Carlton Melson and some other six-stringer called Kirk
Hammett, Agnello soon left, allowing Hammett’s guitar tech Gary Holt to step
up and in. Hammett then stumbled across Paul Baloff, a demo was recorded,
Hammett left to join some other upstarts, Rick Hunolt took the other guitar
and the rest became history. Their 1984 debut Bonded By Blood is a stonewall
genre classic, and with cranium crunching classics such as ‘”A Lesson In
Violence”, “Strike Of The Beast” and more.

EXODUS can promise that this show will not be a calm or gentle soiree… more than an aural beatdown.

The current line-up of Gary Holt on guitar, Lee Altus on guitar, Tom Hunting, on drums Jack Gibson on bass and Rob Dukes on vocals has been in place since 2005. EXODUS‘ last album was 2010’s Exhibit B: The Human Condition on Nuclear Blast Records, and the band have just started working on new material for a prospective release later in 2014.

2013 was a great year for the Hellion Rocks, bring on 2014!!!

178928_10150973183505972_426071352_n 2013 was great year for us here at the Hellion Rocks. Killer interviews, great shows and hanging with even cooler people. It’s very cool when you get to talk to artists you have grown to admire. It’s even cooler when they message you and stay in contact with you. It’s a great feeling when you also help to spread the word of a new up-and-coming band as well. In the past year I have learned how small the music community really is. It is amazing the connections that lead to other connections and how the music brings us all together.

I have to give thanks to my cohorts at Bleach Bangs Radio, Charlie Owens and Randy Norris. These guys are my brothers plain and simple. They are the embodiment of awesome and I am proud to work with them.

Eddie’s Mates holds a special place in my heart as well. Sandy and Sean have not only helped us with Bleach Bangs Radio they also made the logo for the Hellion Rocks! Thanks EM!!!

I have to thank my wife Dani for giving me the courage and strength to reach out and chase this crazy dream. She is ALWAYS there for me.

There are so many people who mean the world to me as well: Mike Araiza, Jeff Sandoval, Adam Joad, Jake Delling LeBas, Redd Yoachum and the rest from Scattered Hamlet, Craw Cajun and Kat Ford, Death Alley Motor Cult, Kurt Arft, Wornstar Clothing, Justin Manning and Crowned By Fire, and Dellacoma Rio and the Sunset Riot guys, Steve Helmer, Dave Gold, and Bobby Siekkinen . Those are just a few from an incredible list.

Thank you to all of the publicists that have worked with me this year as well. Here’s looking towards a productive 2014!!!

Thanks to Blabbermouth.net and Circus Magazine for picking up some of my interviews! I am honored and humbled.

Lastly but far from least I wish I could personally thank each and every one of the 60,000 people from the 140 countries around the world who dropped in on this site last year. I hope you enjoyed it and let me know what you want to see here in the future.

Brutus Will Meet with Fans in Madison, WI on Saturday December 14, 2013 at An Exhibition of the Photographs. Select Images Will Also Be Shown in the Lobby of Madison’s Orpheum Theatre That Evening

Rock Radio legend LOU BRUTUS, who was recently voted Best DJ in America by voters in the Rock Radio Awards sponsored by Radio Contraband, is exhibiting his concert photography for the very first time with ten of the images currently being auctioned on eBay to benefit Wounded Warrior Project.

The photographs, taken at various locations around the United States, include onstage images of Avenged Sevenfold, Slipknot, Five Finger Death Punch, Stone Sour, Shinedown, Halestorm, Disturbed, KoRn, Volbeat, and Jackyl. The photos, culled from the thousands Brutus has shot over his career, were chosen via fan votes on his Facebook page. Each has been framed and matted with the mat hand signed by Brutus in pencil.

Apart from his broadcast career, Lou is an accomplished photographer.  His lighthouse photography has graced magazine covers and he has worked the last six seasons as an on field Major League Baseball photographer. He often shoots rock bands as he travels the world to interview them. This is the first time his photography has ever been available for purchase.

Brutus will exhibit the photographs and meet with fans at Diego’s at 118 State Street in Madison, WI on Saturday December 14, 2013 beginning at 4:30pm CT. Admission is free to the public. While the auction will be closed by that time, those photos will be displayed as well as other images by Brutus that can be won by raffle with the proceeds again benefiting Wounded Warrior Project. Following which, select images from the exhibit will be set up for viewing in the lobby of the Orpheum Theatre in Madison at the Halestorm/Redlight King/Stars in Stereo show.

LOU BRUTUS is best known for his seventeen plus years of national syndication as the host of hardDrive with Lou Brutus and hardDrive XL with Lou Brutus, which can be heard on over 100 radio stations nationwide, as well as his work on other national radio platforms. He has done local shows in Chicago, Philadelphia, Boston, Washington DC, and Providence.

Brutus has also hosted radio specials and/or created radio channels for Metallica, Slipknot, Stone Sour, Rush, Disturbed, Theory of a Deadman, Smashing Pumpkins, and countless others. He was the very first to give national airplay to innumerable bands including Slipknot, Avenged Sevenfold, Disturbed, Halestorm, Five Finger Death Punch, Godsmack and Sevendust.

LOU BRUTUS is currently working on his first book. It’s a collection of music industry war stories and photography, mixed with the museum sized collection of music memorabilia he has collected in his travels including thousands of backstage passes, ticket stubs, guitar picks, and concert posters. It will be entitled “One Man – Two Thousand Concerts: The Greatest Freakin’ Collection of Music Junk and Stories in History.” Sample chapter titles include “The Time Our Tour Bus Ran Over A Suicidal Crack Head on the New Jersey Turnpike,” “The Time I Hid in A Broom Closet So Frank Sinatra’s Bodyguards Wouldn’t Break My Legs, Wrap Me in Chain Link Fence & Drop Me Into the Ocean”, and “The Time I Went to the Arctic and Got In A Mosh Pit with A Bunch of Eskimos While Metallica Sang About Fucking A Goat.”
