What can I say about this CD? WOW! Comes to mind pretty easily. I have known Guitarist Tim Griffiths Garcia for quite a while now. I knew he played guitar but as to the extent of his playing, this completely blew me away. Combined with the clockwork drumming of Jeff Gerdts, the solid bottom end of bassist Dan “Dannikk” Linich, and the vocal mastery of Dion Tejada, Scars Blue shows ya what Rock N ‘ Roll is. Let get into the tracks.
Right off the bat the opener “Separated” grabs hold of your ears and takes you into the world of Scars Blue. “Separated” is the standout track for me on this CD. Well written, very well recorded, and catchy. All the right combinations for a song.
“Emotional Void” opens right into a solid groove that will have you trapping your foot right along with it. Without realizing it you will get lost in the groove and find yourself humming along.
“Lies Bleeding” is the track everyone is most familiar with as it was the first video made from the EP. Tasty track for their first single. You can check it out here:
“Friends” slows it down a bit showcasing the bands melodic side. Heavy, deep, and emotional with killer licks intertwined throughout it adds to the diversity of the CD.
“Left Drunk” is a little bit more funky than the other tracks an showcases the talents that these players so humbly possess. The skill level of this band is amazing.
“Thumper” is just that, it thumps you up like something fierce. This track is fun to watch live, in fact, I just happen to have a live video right here:
Mastered to perfection by the amazing Christopher Kinder (drummer from John Oliva’s Pain) at Shabbey Road Studios, the CD marks a triumphant debut CD for Scars Blue! Solid, straight up, no B.S. Rock N’ Roll!!! Be sure to check them out online!
Indemnified has grown up. I met the band a while back and felt that there was potential and that this band could have something with a little work. Clockwork Soldier is the culmination of their hard work.
I was approached by the band to do a pre-release review and was honored to do so. Here is my take on Clockwork Soldier.
The CD overall is recorded well and the production value is high (recorded at Third Eye Studios, great work guys). This CD can hold its own with sound quality. Professionally packaged, with quality artwork, it does not have the look of some indie releases.
Let’s get into the music. The songs are well written and carry a groove that suits the flow of the CD. I can hear elements of other bands like White Zombie, Deftones, The Cure, System Of A Down, and Tool. They pull this off without “ripping off” the licks of said bands, if you listen to the CD you will hear what I mean.
“Shapechanger” has to be the standout track on the record for me. It grabs hold and burrows into your brain where it runs around in there and has you humming it throughout the day. I put together a a little video of pics over the song for you to hear what I mean, check it out here:
Hunter S. Thompson is one of my favorite authors and the first time I saw Indemnified I was thrilled to see them pay homage to him with their song “Hunter”. They have included it on Clockwork Soldier much to my delight. If you are not familiar with the works of Hunter S. Thompson you should do yourself a favor and check out some, you’ll appreciate the song a little more when you do.
“Honor”, “Clockwork Soldier”, “Magga”, and “Memorial” combined tell a tale of the horrors and tragedies of war. Poignant and touching these songs achieve the intended effect.
“Lady Noir”, “The CattleLyst”, “Tarot”, and “Amburgris” do a nice job of carrying the vibe of the CD. It flows is the best way for me to put it. I find some new elements with each listen. What’s cool about this CD is you can put it on, press play, enjoy, and then realize it’s over and you have to press play again. Overall a solid CD from a band I hope to hear a lot more from in the future. Sold Thumbs up from the Hellion!

Scandinavian Black Metal has been in dire need for an injection of fresh blood during the last years. Now RIMFROST are powerfully sticking it to this scene with ice-cold needles. “Veraldar Nagli”, which translates as “Axis of the World” – meaning the North Star, is unleashing an avalanche of frost-bitten, melodic riffing. The Swedes from Borås are organically fusing Black, Death and Thrash Metal into a mighty sound of their own. Rock n’ Roll history is rife with brothers working together to create their artistic vision. But rarely do we hear about a full-fledged family unit embarking down the treacherous path of a musical career. In the case of Texas based Mothership, the Brother Juett (Kyle on bass, younger brother Kelley on guitar) enlisted the aid of their father, John Juett, to help get the ‘ship off the ground. Raised on a healthy dose of their father’s 70’s-era record collection, the brothers began crafting songs fueled on the raucous and raw good time vibe when music seemed to know no bounds. Lifting off the pad for the first time in 2010, the band began to gain momentum and notoriety with their unabashed live shows. Knowing that the service of the family patriarch was temporary, Father Juett actively helped his boys find his replacement, and in late 2011, enter the mighty Judge Smith to hammer away on the skins. In early 2012, Mothership entered Crystal Clear Studios with Wo Fat mastermind Kent Stump manning the boards and by mid-year, the band self-released their debut album. It was the combination of the 70’s-era heavy rock fuzz and fury mixed with the blistering guitar solos of the NWOBHM-era that drew the bands attention to California-based Heavy Rock label, Ripple Music. In the waning months of 2012, after a successful year of traveling regionally throughout Texas and opening for national acts such as Prong, Red Fang, Gypsyhawk, Earthen Grave, and Lo-Pan, Mothership officially dubbed Ripple Music as its Home Port and began plotting a course for their first U.S. Tour in early 2013.
