Hooligan’s 11/2/12 – A packed house was anxiously awaiting Polyram Recording Artist RUSTY TRAMP. The mood of the crowd was reminiscent of the old club days in Albuquerque NM. Happy, ready to have a good time, old friends glad to see each other.

RUSTY TRAMP is comprised of Tommy Brown (vocals), Mike “Gutter” Garcia (bass/vocals), Thomas Milem (guitars/vocals), and Derrick Milem (drums/vocals). They bring forth straight up crowd pleasing Rock N’ Roll. After some kick ass music from openers

MICHAEL LEE OSTRANDER

VOICE OF DECEMBER

RUSTY TRAMP took the stage and totally owned it. They included the audience in their set, recognizing friends and family members, calling people up to the front. They were tight and on their game, we even got a treat of a cover of Drivin’ N Cryin’s “Fly Me Courageous” with an interlude of Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love” that included a theremin solo from Thomas Milem. All in all a great night of Rock N’ Roll for Rusty Tramp! Check out their facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/RustyTramp?fref=ts website: http://polyrammusic.com/rusty-tramp

GET YOUR EARS ASSAULTED BY GENERATION KILL!

Generation Kill is a band that was recently brought to my attention by a friend. After listening to them for a bit and letting them sink in…. WOW!

Rob Dukes (Exodus): Vocals, Rob Moschetti (Pro-Pain/M.o.D): Bass/Backing vocals, Jason Trenzcer (Mutilation): Lead Guitar, Jason Velez: Lead Guitar, and Jim DeMaria (Marauder): Drums round out this powerhouse band.

Red White And Blood  is a concept album released on 09/27/12 about a soldier who goes to war, experiences the horror of it, returns home and cannot shut down his “killswitch”, which eventually becomes too much for him and he ends his life.

1. Hate
2. Red, White And Blood
3. Feast Of The Wolves
4. Self Medicating
5. Depraved Indifference
6. Slow Burn

TOP 5 ROCK BASS PERFORMANCES – IT’S ALL ABOUT THE BOTTOM END!

I was talking to a friend today and he asked me what I thought were the five best bass performances in Rock N’ Roll. Hmmm… hard  question but I’ll give my opinion on it and see what happens. I love the bass and the weight that it gives to Rock music. So let’s check it out. Keep in mind these are in no particular order they are just the five that stand above the others.

1. Cliff Burton (METALLICA) “FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS”  (LIVE) [CLIFF ‘EM  ALL]

The aggressiveness of Cliff’s playing style in the intro to this song amazes me to this day. I will always remain in awe of him and wonder what more he would have given to us. Enjoy and remember:

2. JOHN ENTWISTLE (THE WHO) “BABA O’RILEY” (LIVE) 1978

The way John carries the song’s intro is magnificent. John’s solid performance style and coolness when he was laying down massive bass lines will forever influence bass players for years to come. Look at his hands, watch and listen:

3. GEEZER BUTLER (BLACK SABBATH) BASSICALLY/N.I.B.

What can I say, utter brilliance here. The riff is as iconic as any guitar riff. Geezer carries this song with majesty, a lot of bass players learn this bass line and try to honor it. I have seen Geezer play it live and it is just as magnificent as it is on record. Listen and get lost:

4. BILLY COX (JIMI HENDRIX) “DOLLY DAGGER”

Just listen to the bass line and you’ll hear why it is included. Billy was an amazing player period. If you’ve never heard of him look up his stuff and prepare to get blown away.:

5. STEVE HARRIS (IRON MAIDEN) “PHANTOM OF THE OPERA”  (LIVE) 1980

Steve Harris and his monster bass runs make him one the most inspiring bassists in rock history. (Besides if I didn’t include Steve Eddie’s Mates would lynch me). I have always been inspired by Steve’s playing style. This is for you Eddie’s Mates:

By no means is this a complete list. There are so many more to list. These five however, jumped into my mind immediately. Please give me YOUR input!

DEATH ALLEY MOTOR CULT DRUMMER – SHAWN VAN WYHE!

http://www.deathalleymotorcult.com/

Hey guys! I just got DAMC drummer to answer a few questions for us. Make sure you catch DAMC on Bleach Bangs Radio this Tuesday (10/02/12)!

1. How did you become involved in music?
Shawn Van Wyhe: Just the love for it. To be honest, Kiss, 1975…huge influence.
2. How did you go about learning to play an instrument? Did you have formal music education?
Shawn Van Wyhe: Loved music as a kid, Beatles and Buddy Holly but then I discovered KISS in like 1975 and everything changed. I took lessons in like 5th and 6th grade through school. Then when I was 18 I could afford real lessons and things took off from there.

3. Was it drums that hooked you, or do you play anything else?
Shawn Van Wyhe: This may sound cliche’, but drums were EVERYTHING t o me for so long. Peter Criss, Bun E Carlos, and gene Krupa were everything to me.
4. I am a KISS fan myself (I have the Rock and Roll Over cover inked on my arm). What do you think about the new lineup with out Ace and Peter? I call it Diet KISS 50% less KISS.
Shawn Van Wyhe: Honestly, I dig it. I think Eric and Tommy are great additions to the band. It’s unfortunate that all 4 of them could not make it work, but at least they are staying true to the music and the image.
5. Right on, I just got to see them on tour. speaking of bands, when was it you started playing in bands?

Shawn Van Wyhe: When I was about 20. It was wild, kind of late but worth the wait.
6. Were there many? And what lessons did you take away from those experiences?

Shawn Van Wyhe: To be honest, there were only three other bands. I learned that it is so important to put your ego aside and work as a team.
7. That is a true statement brother. Tell me about how Death Alley Motor Cult came to be?
Shawn Van Wyhe: Well, Diablo Dave, Zero G and myself were in a band called Dead Garden. The band had run its course and we were looking to go in a different direction. More groove oriented so to speak. We looked for a bass player, and Falcon fit in perfectly. We had all known of each other forever but never played in a band together. Not to sound cliche’, but after that first practice, we all knew that what we had was very special and we needed to run with it.

8. Very cool, totally understand the “Vibe” thing. Tell us some of the recent events in the DAMC world.
Shawn Van Wyhe: Well, we have just signed on with Eddie’s Mates and could not be happier. They are helping take us to another level that we could not do alone. We have been slowly breaking out of playing just local shows and have started to branch out to Vegas, Santa Ana, and Sacramento. With no end in sight we are totally stoked!!
9. Very glad to hear that, you guys definitely deserve it! So what are you listening to lately?
Shawn Van Wyhe: Everything! Green Day, Testament, Lit, Accept, Texas Hippie Coalition….all over the board.
10. All great choices, listening to some of those myself. Last question: The floor is yours speak your mind about anything you want:
Shawn Van Wyhe: Well, We all think that we have something special with Death Alley. We have so much fun and look forward to taking it to the world and sharing what we have with everyone.
