The career of John 5 began to achieve acknowledgements with Marilyn Manson in 1998 but not without paying his dues first.  Before landing the Manson gig, John 5 had been performing with Lita Ford, K.D. Lang , Rob Halford, David Lee Roth, and a string of local bands before making his trek to Los Angeles.  Throughout his time with Marilyn Manson, he continued working as a session guitarist on several albums to continue building his resume.  By 2003, John had teamed up with Fender Musical Instrument Corporation to launch his very own signature model guitar.
2004 marked the beginning of his solo career that now includes six studio albums (Vertigo, Songs for Sanity, The Devil Knows My Name, Requiem, The Art of Malice, and God Told Me To) complimented by a remix album of previous works entitled, Remixploitation.

SCARS BLUE EP – CD REVIEW

     What can I say about this CD? WOW! Comes to mind pretty easily. I have known Guitarist Tim Griffiths Garcia for quite a while now. I knew he played guitar but as to the extent of his playing, this completely blew me away. Combined with the clockwork drumming of Jeff Gerdts, the solid bottom end of bassist Dan “Dannikk” Linich, and the vocal mastery of Dion Tejada, Scars Blue shows ya what Rock N ‘ Roll is. Let get into the tracks.

Right off the bat the opener “Separated” grabs hold of your ears and takes you into the world of Scars Blue. “Separated” is the standout track for me on this CD. Well written, very well recorded, and catchy. All the right combinations for a song.

“Emotional Void” opens right into a solid groove that will have you trapping your foot right along with it. Without realizing it you will get lost in the groove and find yourself humming along.

          “Lies Bleeding” is the track everyone is most familiar with as it was the first video made from the EP. Tasty track for their first single. You can check it out here:


     “Friends” slows it down a bit showcasing the bands melodic side. Heavy, deep, and emotional with killer licks intertwined throughout it adds to the diversity of the CD.

     “Left Drunk” is a little bit more funky than the other tracks an showcases the talents that these players so humbly possess. The skill level of this band is amazing.

     “Thumper” is just that, it thumps you up like something fierce. This track is fun to watch live, in fact, I just happen to have a live video right here:

     Mastered to perfection by the amazing Christopher Kinder (drummer from John Oliva’s Pain) at Shabbey Road Studios, the CD marks a triumphant debut CD for Scars Blue! Solid, straight up, no B.S. Rock N’ Roll!!! Be sure to check them out online!

Indemnified has grown up. I met the band a while back and felt that there was potential and that this band could have something with a little work. Clockwork Soldier is the culmination of their hard work.

I was approached by the band to do  a pre-release review and was honored to do so. Here is my take on Clockwork Soldier.

The CD overall is recorded well and the production value is high (recorded at Third Eye Studios, great work guys). This CD can hold its own with sound quality. Professionally packaged, with quality artwork, it does not have the look of some indie releases.

Let’s get into the music. The songs are well written and carry a groove that suits the flow of the CD. I can hear elements of other bands like White Zombie, Deftones, The Cure, System Of A Down, and Tool. They pull this off without “ripping off” the licks of said bands, if you listen to the CD you will hear what I mean.

“Shapechanger” has to be the standout track on the record for me. It grabs hold  and burrows into your brain where it runs around in there and has you humming it throughout the day. I put together a a little video of pics over the song for you to hear what I mean, check it out here:

     Hunter S. Thompson is one of my favorite authors and the first time I saw Indemnified I was thrilled to see them pay homage to him with their song “Hunter”. They have included it on Clockwork Soldier much to my delight. If you are not familiar with the works of Hunter S. Thompson you should do yourself a favor and check out some, you’ll appreciate the song a little more when you do.

“Honor”, “Clockwork Soldier”, “Magga”, and “Memorial” combined tell a tale of the horrors and tragedies of war. Poignant and touching these songs achieve the intended effect.

“Lady Noir”, “The CattleLyst”, “Tarot”, and “Amburgris” do a nice job of carrying the vibe of the CD. It flows is the best way for me to put it. I find some new elements with each listen. What’s cool about this CD is you can put it on, press play, enjoy, and then realize it’s over and you have to press play again.    Overall a solid CD from a band I hope to hear a lot more from in the future. Sold Thumbs up from the Hellion!

Up-and-coming Australian metalcore band FEED HER TO THE SHARKS has been blazing the underground trail for some time— attracting fans across the globe with their pristine technical sound and engaging live performances. Originally discovered in 2012 by Darkest Hour guitarist Mike Schleibaum whilst already having a Fredrik Nordstrom-produced full-length album tacked to their name, this gifted five-piece is ready to take things above and beyond in 2013 with a new tour coming this spring and new album, Savage Seas, set for release this summer.

Additional support will come from Upon a Burning Body and A Breach of Silence. With this tour under their belts, FEED HER TO THE SHARKS will add to an already stellar list of international acts that they’ve had the opportunity to perform with, such as Suicide Silence, August Burns Red, Asking Alexandria and more. Dates for the upcoming tour are still under wraps, but stay alert for updates coming soon.

“We recently played with FHTTS on a last minute show addition to our Human Romance Australian tour. Immediately, a few of the guys and I were impressed with FHTTS’ raw power and total precision,” adds Darkest Hour guitarist and co-manager Mike Schleibaum. “It was like watching a band who had been around for years destroy the stage. The sound, the vibe, it was all so pure and perfect. After the show we were pleased to find out they were some of the nicest down to earth dudes around. FEED HER TO THE SHARKS have been working at a frenzied pace since forming in Melbourne, Victoria in February, 2009. The band recorded their debut album, The Beauty Of Falling, in their own studio in 2011. They worked in collaboration with world renowned metal producers Fredrik Nordstrom and Henrik Udd who handled the mixing of the debut album. The result: an independent release that has the sonic punch of a full-scale studio production, sure to dent stereos and see heads banging across the world. The Beauty Of Falling is an album that fearlessly expands on a beloved genre while at the same time providing a familiar entry point for heavy music fans.

FEED HER TO THE SHARKS is made of up several talented musicians, including vocalist and pianist Andrew Vanderzalm and guitarist/synth player Kim Choo, who are both classically trained pianists. Formed in the year 2000 under the monicker Devils Whorehouse by Morgan from Marduk, and after releasing the highly acclaimed albums ”Revelation Unorthodox” and ”Blood & Ashes” as well as the eps, ”Howling” and ”Werewolf”, the band fell its time to change name as the music and philosophy behind the orchestra has outgrown its name. The end of one world and the birth of another. The band now continues under the name Death Wolf symbolising the strenght,dedication and will shown in its creations. The band just finished the recording of its upcoming album filled with Northern end themes and death hymns. Cold steel over the worlds throat. Scandinavian Black Metal has been in dire need for an injection of fresh blood during the last years. Now RIMFROST are powerfully sticking it to this scene with ice-cold needles. “Veraldar Nagli”, which translates as “Axis of the World” – meaning the North Star, is unleashing an avalanche of frost-bitten, melodic riffing. The Swedes from Borås are organically fusing Black, Death and Thrash Metal into a mighty sound of their own. RIMFROST successfully merge the frost-bitten drive of early IMMORTAL with the pounding groove and catchiness of AMON AMARTH and the harsh attitude of SLAYER. Despite this heavy name-dropping the duo has created a sound of its own long since its founding and honed it to sophistication in its eighth year of existence.

The seed of fire was born in the summer of 2003 when 4 friends got together to have fun, krank up the amps, and raise some hell! Originally hailing from Waltham,MA, Graveyard BBQ’s self-proclaimed “DIRTCORE” sound is a style coined by Slinger/Vox/Songwriter/Visionary/Creator, “Brownbag Johnson”. It’s recipe is a unique high-voltage blend of “Old school Delta Country Blues, penetrated by Monstrous/Sleazy guitar riffs, Electrifying slide-guitar, Thunderous Bass and Drums, Powerful/ Gritty/ Sinister vocals, fronted by a rebel rock attitude that boasts SEX, BOOZE, n ROCKnROLL!!!” Of Graveyard BBQ’s many traits, fun is the bottom line. They incorporate their strong roots into their own modern soul-laced style of an electrified rock carnival that grabs you by the balls and says “I said dance!” Their song’s lyrical content is almost always laced with a devishly fun n’ twisted sense of humor, but also contains more serious themes of real individual life experiences, substance, and conviction of payin their dues while singin’ the blues which makes the story complete

Rock n’ Roll history is rife with brothers working together to create their artistic vision. But rarely do we hear about a full-fledged family unit embarking down the treacherous path of a musical career. In the case of Texas based Mothership, the Brother Juett (Kyle on bass, younger brother Kelley on guitar) enlisted the aid of their father, John Juett, to help get the ‘ship off the ground. Raised on a healthy dose of their father’s 70’s-era record collection, the brothers began crafting songs fueled on the raucous and raw good time vibe when music seemed to know no bounds. Lifting off the pad for the first time in 2010, the band began to gain momentum and notoriety with their unabashed live shows. Knowing that the service of the family patriarch was temporary, Father Juett actively helped his boys find his replacement, and in late 2011, enter the mighty Judge Smith to hammer away on the skins. In early 2012, Mothership entered Crystal Clear Studios with Wo Fat mastermind Kent Stump manning the boards and by mid-year, the band self-released their debut album. It was the combination of the 70’s-era heavy rock fuzz and fury mixed with the blistering guitar solos of the NWOBHM-era that drew the bands attention to California-based Heavy Rock label, Ripple Music. In the waning months of 2012, after a successful year of traveling regionally throughout Texas and opening for national acts such as Prong, Red Fang, Gypsyhawk, Earthen Grave, and Lo-Pan, Mothership officially dubbed Ripple Music as its Home Port and began plotting a course for their first U.S. Tour in early 2013.
