Blackout States On October 16 Via Spinefarm Records

(New York, N.Y.): MICHAEL MONROE-hugely influential front man, force of nature, multi-instrumentalist and revered rock ‘n’ roll icon-will release a new studio album, Blackout States, on Friday, October 16 via Spinefarm Records.

This 13-track outing was produced by Chips Kiesbye (Hellacopters, Nomads) in Gothenburg, Sweden, and mixed by Petri Majuri in Helsinki, Finland.

It is the follow-up to Horns and Halos, a Finnish chart-topper in 2013.

With Blackout States, MONROE‘s current touring and recording outfit, comprised of bassist Sami Yaffa (ex-Hanoi Rocks/New York Dolls), guitarist Steve Conte (ex-New York Dolls/Company of Wolves), guitarist Rich Jones (ex-Black Halos/Amen), and drummer Karl Rockfist (ex-Chelsea Smiles/Danzig), provided strong creative support for a groundbreaking artist whose reputation continues to flourish. Many of rock’s most noted performers, including Dave Grohl and Slash, have cited MONROE‘s unwavering drive and three-decade-plus career as a genuine source of inspiration.

Indeed, when Slash headlines the Ice Hall in Helsinki on May 28, MONROE will be the invited “Special Guest,” opening the show in front of thousands of fans; after that, he heads across to London to play the Camden Rocks Festival on May 30.

This one-off UK appearance at Camden Proud will be filmed by celebrated videographer/photographer Ville Juurikkala as part of the video for the first single from Blackout States.

As with Horns and Halos, the new recordings see MONROE both toasting the future and honoring the past, occasionally giving the nod to glam punk pioneers, Hanoi Rocks, the group with which he forged his name in the early-to mid-’80s.

     Michael Monroe and Hanoi Rocks was very influential to the “Hair Metal” bands of the 80’s. I have always been a fan of the music and style of Hanoi Rocks. I am glad to see Michael still living the dream and making great music.

Former Misfits guitarist DOYLE Wolfgang Von Frankenstein will head out with Danzig on the second leg of the DANZIG 25 tour. The second leg of the tour will again feature a special Misfits set and also features openers Butcher Babies, Texas Hippie Coalition and A Pale Horse Named Death. The tour kicks off on September 13th with a performance at Riotfest in Chicago, IL, and picks back up again on October 8th in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. The tour closes in San Francisco, CA on Halloween night! How horrifically perfect for two of music’s most influential horror-punk masters.

 

Heads up – just before his Los Angeles performance with Danzig next Friday, August 30th at Gibson Amphitheatre, DOYLE will take part in an exclusive signing at Guitar Center Hollywood on Thursday, August 29th from 3:00-4:00PM! Ex-MISFITS Guitarist DOYLE Releases Debut Solo Album ‘Abominator’ Today

Punk Rock superhero and former Misfits guitarist DOYLE Wolfgang Von Frankenstein releases his brand new album Abominator today with his own label, Monsterman Records (in partnership with Brain Muscle Media), via INgrooves, the leading global independent music distributor. The album is available digitally at all major digital retailers, and will be available in CD and vinyl form in October 2013.

 

Abominator, which has been called by critics, “perhaps the best Misfits-related record in over a decade”, features Alex Story (Cancerslug) on vocals, “Left-Hand” Graham on bass and Dr. Chud (Misfits) on drums. DOYLE‘s nuclear guitar riffs are mixed to melt speakers, while Alex Story’s screaming vocals add to the sonic attack that is Abominator.

 

DOYLE released the main single from the new album, ‘Valley Of Shadows’, becamed available on iTunes worldwide on June 25. All of the tracks on Abominatorare rife with horror imagery, while telling the tale of a sick and twisted love story. June 14th, 1965 – December 23. 2012

     Mike was the guitarist for Ministry, Rigor Mortis, and The Revolting Cocks.

Mike was performing onstage in Fort Worth Texas with Rigor Mortis when he had a seizure and collapsed. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. R.I.P. Brother you are already missed.

     To be honest, I don’t know who told me about Bloody Hammers, but I’m glad they did. I anxiously awaited the release of this CD after hearing a sampling online. Bloody Hammers consists of: Vocals, Bass: Anders Manga, Organ: Devallia, Guitar: Zoltan, and Drums: Curse. Mysterious names, mysterious members, good luck finding photographs. They cite the following bands as influences: Roky Erickson, Alice Cooper, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, Pentagram, Black Sabbath, Bauhaus, Concrete Blonde, The Beatles, Arthur Brown, The Cramps, The Misfits, Ramones, Venom, Rush, Joy Division, Dio, Captain Beyond, T.Rex, Sisters of Mercy, Dust, Trouble, Danzig, Hawkwind, Hammer Horror, Something Weird Video … everything! How could they not be good with those influences? Let’s get into the record: Stand out tracks for me are “Witch Of Endor”, “Black Magic”, “Say Goodbye To The Sun”, and “Don’t Breathe A Word”.

     Dark, brooding, and damn good, this records is hypnotic. While the band has an original sound, there are some comforting familiar riffs here. I find this CD strangely hypnotic and it draws me into it. Well put together and engineered, the dark theme of this work is captured beautifully. Another one  of the things that I love about this CD is the fact that no one tries to  over play each other. The instruments compliment each other, not drown each other out or try to take the spotlight from each other. I have listened to this CD several times through and the flow is awesome. There is truly no filler on this CD, you can put it on and let it go from start to finish. A winner all around! Here’s the video for “Fear No Evil”:
