We need Rock N’ Roll heroes

rockstar2

Remember when Rock Stars were larger than life? Glammed out superheroes we stuck on our walls and tried to emulate? Over the top looks and lifestyles were the norm for them. Not to mention we had a lot of cool music to listen to. We need them back in our lives, and then some.

Turn on the news, read a paper and it’s doom and gloom with no end in sight. It’s getting old and tired to me.  Remember how you felt when you saw you favorite Rock Star or picked up a new record, poster, or magazine? Remember how good it felt?

There are still real Rock Stars walking the earth. They are out there and we need to step up and support them and what they do. Go to a Rock Show and help it to be all that it can be. Buy the records, shirts, and hit them up for posters and such. Let’s enjoy ourselves and revel in Rock N’ Roll once again!

it’s loud, it’s dirty, it’s ROCK N’ F’N ROLL!!!

Thrash Legends EXODUS Issue First Studio Update!

On Tour with SLAYER and SUICIDAL TENDENCIES in May 2014 + Rock On The Range + Heavy Montreal

image001

San Francisco’s veteran thrashers EXODUS have entered a studio in Northern California with producer Andy Sneap to record their eleventh studio album. Guitarist and songwriter Gary Holt has issued the following update:

“We are well into drum tracks; everything is going super smooth and Tom [Hunting] is just killing it! Best drum sound this band has ever laid down – sounds just simply pummeling! Only one more song and some B sides to go, then we go through things and make sure everything is up to par, and then time for guitars! Can’t wait to add the crunch to these monsters. This is gonna be so goddamned heavy it ain’t even funny! We couldn’t be more stoked and pleased with how this record is coming along! Bludgeoning!”

ABOUT EXODUS:

With a career spanning 34 years and over five million albums sold worldwide, EXODUS have not only helped shape & define the thrash metal genre for over three decades but they continually seek to raise its standards. One of the forefathers of the Bay Area scene that became known & envied throughout the world, the band’s 1985 debut album, Bonded By Blood, has since become a legacy album featuring mandatory live staples such as “Strike Of The Beast,” “A Lesson In Violence,” and the album’s title track. Formed in 1980, the band’s original members included Tom Hunting on drums, Kirk Hammett (METALLICA) & Tim Agnello on guitars, and Carlton Melson on bass. With a line-up that evolved throughout the years, the current incarnation of EXODUS has remained unchanged since 2007: Gary Holt & Lee Altus on guitars, Tom Hunting on drums, Jack Gibson on bass, and Rob Dukes on vocals. To date,EXODUS has released ten studio albums, two live albums, and one compilation. Their most recent release, Exhibit B: The Human Condition, debuted at #114 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart in 2010.

2013 was a great year for the Hellion Rocks, bring on 2014!!!

178928_10150973183505972_426071352_n 2013 was great year for us here at the Hellion Rocks. Killer interviews, great shows and hanging with even cooler people. It’s very cool when you get to talk to artists you have grown to admire. It’s even cooler when they message you and stay in contact with you. It’s a great feeling when you also help to spread the word of a new up-and-coming band as well. In the past year I have learned how small the music community really is. It is amazing the connections that lead to other connections and how the music brings us all together.

I have to give thanks to my cohorts at Bleach Bangs Radio, Charlie Owens and Randy Norris. These guys are my brothers plain and simple. They are the embodiment of awesome and I am proud to work with them.

Eddie’s Mates holds a special place in my heart as well. Sandy and Sean have not only helped us with Bleach Bangs Radio they also made the logo for the Hellion Rocks! Thanks EM!!!

I have to thank my wife Dani for giving me the courage and strength to reach out and chase this crazy dream. She is ALWAYS there for me.

There are so many people who mean the world to me as well: Mike Araiza, Jeff Sandoval, Adam Joad, Jake Delling LeBas, Redd Yoachum and the rest from Scattered Hamlet, Craw Cajun and Kat Ford, Death Alley Motor Cult, Kurt Arft, Wornstar Clothing, Justin Manning and Crowned By Fire, and Dellacoma Rio and the Sunset Riot guys, Steve Helmer, Dave Gold, and Bobby Siekkinen . Those are just a few from an incredible list.

Thank you to all of the publicists that have worked with me this year as well. Here’s looking towards a productive 2014!!!

Thanks to Blabbermouth.net and Circus Magazine for picking up some of my interviews! I am honored and humbled.

Lastly but far from least I wish I could personally thank each and every one of the 60,000 people from the 140 countries around the world who dropped in on this site last year. I hope you enjoyed it and let me know what you want to see here in the future.

it’s loud, it’s dirty, it’s ROCK N’ ROLL!!

Lynam – Halfway To Hell EP

lynamhalfwayepcover

1. Rise Up
2. Halfway To Hell
3. Dead Mans Parade
4. Cold
5. Store Bought Halo
6. Wrong Side Of The Grave

Are you ready for a dose of hard charging, balls out Rock N’ Roll? Lynam delivers with their new EP Halfway To Hell. It’s all here: catchy hooks, swagger, great image, and songs that you’ll find yourself humming well after the CD is over. Dirty guitar driven songs are what you find here and I, for one, sure missed them. Bringing to mind the fun and spectacle of the 80’s, but with their own style and flavor Lynam has a hit on their hands.

Lynam is comprised of Jacob Bunton – Vocals/Guitar, David Lynam – Drums/Vocals, Lonny Paul – Guitar/Vocals, Mark Dzier- Bass/Vocals. These boys have done their homework on their influences. Motley Crue, Foo Fighters, Guns N Roses, Greenday are but some of their inspirations.

Hell I can’t even find a stand out track on this record because they are all worth listening to, over and over and over. Gang vocals behind a top notch singer, sleazy guitars, nasty bass lines, all held together by a tight drummer makes this all work.

I HIGHLY recommend this record, it’s like those potato chips “once you start listening to it , you can’t stop”!

Check out Lynam on the web:  www.twitter.com/lynammusic www.lynammusic.com https://www.facebook.com/lynammusic

LET IT RAWK, AN ALL-STAR TRIBUTE TO THE SUNSET STRIP GLORY DAYS PRODUCED BY STACEY BLADES, DEBUTS IN LAS VEGAS JANUARY 2014

1450342_1413553892215730_1132799226_n

The Vegas strip had nothing on the Sunset Strip when it came to rock ‘n’ roll, and a new multi-media show is bringing that experience to the stage in a special sneak preview.  LET IT RAWK will debut in the Chrome Showroom at Santa Fe Station and Casino in Las Vegas on Saturday, January 18 at 9pm PST.

LET IT RAWK is a loud, colorful, energetic and interactive experience of the hair metal era on LA’s Sunset Strip.  The showroom and stage will be infused with the sights and energy of a legendary rock club.  Performed by guys who were there, shaping the scene, the show’s playlist includes the greatest hits from the ‘80s and early ‘90s.  From Warrant to Motley Crue the best anthems will be performed in all the glory of the day.  And hits from the LET IT RAWK band’s careers are highlights.

The LET IT RAWK band is the real deal.  It’s fronted by Black “N Blue and ex-Warrant vocalist Jaime St. James. Guitarist Oz Fox is in the platinum-selling Christian glam rock band, Stryper. Dokken’s Sean McNabb has played bass for other Kings of The Sunset Strip including Great White and Quiet Riot. Drummer Brent Fitz from Slash And The Conspirators will be slamming the skins. Brent has also played for Vince Neil and Alice Cooper. The band will also feature floating members, such as Eddie Ojeda from Twisted Sister and Bullet Boys original drummer Jimmy D’Anda.  The anchor of the band is LET IT RAWK’s creator and producer, Stacey Blades.

Stacey’s ten years with L.A. Guns cemented him as a must-watch guitar player, and his final record with the band, HOLLYWOOD FOREVER, earned him critical acclaim for his exceptional fretwork.  He left the band last year to pursue his other projects, including LET IT RAWK.  “I have been diligently working on this project since last March, and am super stoked to be sharing the stage with such awesome guys and talented musicians. The show will be playing a few times a month here in Vegas and then be doing casino shows nationally, LET IT RAWK! See you out there!”

LET IT RAWK debuts in the Chrome Showroom at Santa Fe Station and Casino, 4949 North Rancho Drive, Las Vegas, on Saturday, January 18 at 9pm PST.  General admission tickets are $21.  VIP meet-and-greet upgrades will be available soon.  Tickets are available athttp://www.ticketmaster.com/event/17004B798ED17265.

What is music to me?

IMAG1574

What is music? Wow, what a question. I’ll try to tell you what it is to me.

I remember being alone a lot when I was younger, I also remember a painful childhood. Yet there was always a friend around to whisk me away from reality, music. I would often find myself listening to the world around me and the music it contained. There were birds chirping, the wind in the trees or against a building, the rain, sometimes the music of people going about their lives. That was natural music and it lives within us all, it is primal.

I remember radio becoming a close friend to me as well. I would listen to the various stations open minded to all that I was hearing. Through it all Rock N’ Roll called to me and welcomed me with open arms. There was such feeling in the music, and I identified with it. I was carried away from the everyday world by Rush, Van Halen, Boston, Peter Frampton, KISS….on an on. I was safe with them and I felt good. I give thanks to the live DJs who turned me on to the music they were listening to. I remember being able to call them up late night and discuss music with them and learn of bands and songs that still hold meaning to me today.

Ahhh the rock show, I have many fond memories here. When I was old enough I started going to live concerts and experiencing live music. What a joy to hear the songs I had come to know and love in a live setting. It was magical to see the songs being played to the moment. There is nothing like a live song played with the passion and emotions of the artist in the now. It was a party going to a live show, no fighting (well not like today, there were a few at times), no animosity, such a gathering for a good time. You could find out about bands you might not have heard of yet from others and you could turn them on to bands you have discovered. It was FUN!!! No cellphones, no leaving before the show was over, you were on from the first note to the end. Then the post show hangout and discussions, oh the times we had.

The event  of a new release, yes I said event. Once upon a time there were music stores and that was their main focus. Many of us would read every scrap of print we could find in order to know about upcoming releases. We would hang around in the record store talking music, and about the bands we loved. When a new record came out we would eagerly shell out our hard earned bucks, race home heart pounding, rip off the plastic, smell the fresh vinyl, drop the needle, and escape into the album artwork and liner notes.

What is music? Well, to me it is life, love and who we are. Our styles and preferences may change throughout the years but that love lives on within us. It is a different world today, the demise of the big labels, record stores closing, live radio traded for corporate canned programming. And yet, I raise my horns high and rock on as I have always done. The spirit lives on in me as I know it does in others and I am taking it back from the corporate world and I am gonna pass this message on to the world. Go to a live show, buy a t-shirt, buy a physical copy of the bands music, read the liner notes, TALK to people at a show, live the music because it lives in you.

it’s loud, it’s dirty, it’s ROCK N’ ROLL (and I love it)

The Dead Daisies – an interview with vocalist Jon Stevens and an all star performance at the Revolt On The Rio Grande Festival 08/31/13

There has been a lot of buzz about The Dead Daisies lately, and, after seeing them perform I now know why. We were fortunate enough to have been granted an interview with vocalist Jon Stevens (Sydney, Noiseworks, INXS) on their tour bus prior to their performance. He was very entertaining and the interview was a blast. We were treated with kindness and grace and felt comfortable and welcome. Jon even provided us with signed copies of the debut CD from The Dead Daisies. If you look at the CD in the picture it says” Play Loud” -Jon Stevens

The CD is amazing to say the least. It features Jon Stevens- vocals/guitars, David Lowy- guitars, John Fields- bass/guitars/keyboards/percussion, Vanessa Amorosi- vocals, Kevin Savigar- keyboards, Dorian Crozier- drums, Isaac Carpenter- drums (“Yesterday & Tomorrow”). The amazing single from this release is “Lock’N’Load” and features Jon Stevens – Lead & Backing Vocals/Acoustic Guitar, Slash – Lead Guitar, David Lowy- Guitar, Johnny Salerno- Drums, Simon Hosford- Bass/Electric & Acoustic Guitar, John Fields- Organ.

We were in for quite the surprise for the live performance. The touring band consisted of the following individuals:

Bobby Schneck - Bobby Schneck got his start in the bars and clubs of the midwest at the age of 17 playing everything from country to funk to full bore heavy metal. After moving to LA in 1987 he found himself in one of the biggest Sunset Strip bands of the day called B.B. Chung King and the Screaming Buddaheads. A fan of the band turned out to be Slash who would regularly sit in with the band. In 1996 Slash tapped Bobby to tour with Slash's Blues Ball, a funk and RB rock band that circled the globe on and off for 18 months. He went on to record and tour with Eddie Money, Five For Fighting, Gilby Clarke, Warren Zevon, Green Day and Weezer and then filled in for an ailing Brad Whitford on the 2009 Aerosmith Tour. Slash again tapped him for the "We're All Gonna Die" tour in 2010 featuring Myles Kennedy on vocals. -photo by the Hellion
