PHILIP ANSELMO and WARBEAST Confirm January 8, 2012 Release Date for New Split Album ‘War of the Gargantuas’ – Marking the Release of Philip Anselmo’s First Solo Work

 

WARBEAST Set to Release New Full Length Album ‘Destroy’ in Early 2013

 

Legendary Pantera, Superjoint Ritual and DOWN vocalist PHILIP ANSELMO and Housecore Records thrashers WARBEASTrecently announced that they will be releasing a new split album entitled War of the Gargantuas. The split now has an official release date of January 8, 2012 and will include two songs from each artist. This album serves as the first release of any solo work by PHILIP ANSELMO during the span of his nearly 30-year legacy. Also, the two WARBEAST tracks on the split feature former bassist Alan Bovee before his amicable departure from the band. Since then, Dre Karst has joined on bass.

“This split is a glimpse into the future of both my solo project and ultimate thrash metallers WARBEAST. The title of the split is War of The Gargantuas and it is fitting on many levels because of our combined love for the 60’s Japanese film of the same name, the power of our combined musical output(s) and our humorous affection that plays out within each of our “Gargantuan” personalities,” states PHILIP ANSELMO. “Both WARBEAST and myself have full length LP’s that will be released shortly after this is released, but this split is unique musically. It is a time capsule; a loud pause ‘til we both release our full length products. Enjoy the destruction of music!”

“These two songs we have on War of the Gargantuas were the next level after Krush The Enemy,” states WARBEAST guitarist Scott Shelby. “They’ve been a staple in our set list for the last two years. These songs are a pure demonstration of our unique Texas thrash metal style.”

WARBEAST also recently announced the upcoming release of their second full-length album, Destroy. The album is scheduled to be released in early 2013 via Housecore Records and is currently in the mastering stages. Stay tuned for more information on Destroy coming very soon.

RUSTY TRAMP took the stage and totally owned it. They included the audience in their set, recognizing friends and family members, calling people up to the front. They were tight and on their game, we even got a treat of a cover of Drivin’ N Cryin’s “Fly Me Courageous” with an interlude of Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love” that included a theremin solo from Thomas Milem. Generation Kill is a band that was recently brought to my attention by a friend. After listening to them for a bit and letting them sink in…. WOW!

Rob Dukes (Exodus): Vocals, Rob Moschetti (Pro-Pain/M.o.D): Bass/Backing vocals, Jason Trenzcer (Mutilation): Lead Guitar, Jason Velez: Lead Guitar, and Jim DeMaria (Marauder): Drums round out this powerhouse band.

Red White And Blood  is a concept album released on 09/27/12 about a soldier who goes to war, experiences the horror of it, returns home and cannot shut down his “killswitch”, which eventually becomes too much for him and he ends his life.

GET SOME – LOUDNESS

1980 Japan- found Akira Takasaki (guitars) and Munetaka Higuchi (drums) laying the ground work for the band which would become LOUDNESS. Adding Masayoshi Yamashita on bass and Minoru Niihara on vocals rounded out the lineup.

The band recorded four albums in their native Japan between 1980 and 1984. In 1985 Atco records woke up and signed them to an international record deal. Max Norman produced Thunder In The East which spawned the single “Crazy Nights”.

     1986’s Lightning Strikes was once again produced by Max Norman as well. This release gave us the single “Let It Go” which put them in with the likes of Motley Crue and Ratt, flirting with their glam side.

     1988 to 2001 brought lineup changes to the band. They released several more records in this time until tragedy struck in 2008. Original drummer  Munetaka Higuchi passed away from liver cancer at the age of 49. Rest In Peace my Rock N’ Roll brother.

     LOUDNESS soldiered on and in 2009 hired Masayuki Suzuki as their new drummer. Masayuki stepped to the honor and did it justice.

     LOUDNESS  continues to tour and record to this day. Making new music and paying homage to their songs of the past. Stronger than ever, the band is completely solid and impresses new fans as well as old. They released their latest album 2.0.1.2 in august of 2012.

HAVOK – A BAND THAT MADE ME SAY DAMN…

Sometimes a band impacts you, sometimes very hard. HAVOK accomplished this on me on 10/25/12 when I caught their live show. Straight out of the gate I was hooked. mid-set I went to their merch table and purchased their two CD’s POINT OF NO RETURN and TIME IS UP. 

Formed in Colorado in 2004, the band put out two self-released discs and quickly garnered interest from UK label Candlelight records. BURN was released in 2009 bringing forth an onslaught of brutal guitar riffs, chest crushing bass lines, jackhammer drums, and vocals from the depths of hell itself! 2011 brought forth their second album TIME IS UP. Front to back this CD smokes. One can really appreciate the technical skill put forth on this album. Remember the first time you heard Metallica, Exodus, Overkill, Anthrax, Testament, or Obituary? HAVOK takes you back with this one. They deliver the same “We will crush you to the ground” punch on this one. In 2012 HAVOK put out the EP POINT OF NO RETURN. Though it only has four tracks (one of which pays homage to Slayer’s “Reigning Blood”) it satisfies your need for metal.

Listening to the CD’s gives one a chance to appreciate the technical prowess of HAVOK but it is their live show that will completely blow you away. Energetic, engaging, powerful are but only a few words to describe them live. You HAVE to see them live given the chance.

HAVOK is comprised of David Sanchez – Lead vocals / Guitars, Jesse De Los Santos – Lead bass / Vocals, Pete Webber – Lead drums, and Reece Scruggs – Lead guitar / Vocals. I was able to speak for a moment with Jesse and Reece about their performance. They were very humble and grateful to my words of praise for them. They graciously signed my newly purchased copy of TIME IS UP. It was a great evening.

In conclusion, I would like to thank HAVOK for carrying the torch of Thrash that their forefathers lit for them.

BEARD – RELEASES BLACK UNICORN, IS #1 IN CASSETTE SALES!

ALBUQUERQUE NM – 10/26/2012, HOOLIGANS NIGHTCLUB 11:00 pm

BEARD took the stage to celebrate the release of their highly anticipated debut cassette (yes I said cassette) Black unicorn. After a brief introduction by Steve Beneath, it was on. The place was packed to the brim with friends, fans, and family all in a festive mood and ready to rock!

There are two things about BEARD that impress me, the fact that they don’t take themselves seriously, and that they DO take their music serious. They have FUN on stage and in turn, that fun is infectious to the crowd. Bringing their form of straight up Rock N’ Roll, BEARD takes me back to the days when life was still fun, and we were ten feet tall and still bulletproof.

BEARD doesn’t act like rockstars, or claim to be rockstars, yet they are. I have had the distinct pleasure of meeting and talking with the band several times and they are not only fantastic performers, they are great people.  Let me introduce you:

The show came off in true Rock N’ Roll style, gritty, loud, in your face, spot on. The crowd sang along to their favorite songs, the band called out to friends and family in the crowd, brought up guests to sing with them, a true Rock show.

The nights revelry culminated by an all out silly string assault on the band by friends and family. It was a virtual jungle of silly string, it was everywhere and it was wonderful.

BEARD is a band that truly deserves a shot in the world. The new “cassette” (the release is actually in digital download format) is utterly amazing (an in-depth review will be posted here very very soon) and the live show holds par with some of the national acts I have seen.
