VOICE OF DECEMBER

RUSTY TRAMP took the stage and totally owned it. They included the audience in their set, recognizing friends and family members, calling people up to the front. They were tight and on their game, we even got a treat of a cover of Drivin’ N Cryin’s “Fly Me Courageous” with an interlude of Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love” that included a theremin solo from Thomas Milem. BANDS, BANDS, BANDS, BANDS, BANDS!!!!!

We’re back with another round of bands for your earholes!!!

1. HOUR OF PENANCE

http://www.facebook.com/hourofpenance

http://www.hourofpenance.net

Giulio Moschini – Guitars / Backing Vocals, Silvano Leone – Bass / Backing vocals, James Payne – Drums, and Paolo Pieri – Vocals / Guitars make up this  band from Italy. Forged in the dark shadows of “The Holy Capital”, this most unholy of quartets have steadily been making a name for themselves as one of the most intense, talented and impressive, both in the studio & live onstage, modern death metal bands around. These tyrannical troubadours of brutality have so far spread their plague of destruction across the breadth of the European continent from pulverizing festivals in Portugal and Spain in the West through laying waste to Germany, the Netherlands & central Europe to besieging the Czech Republic in the East.

    2. THEART

Azaria – Vocals and Guitar, Kara Jayne – Vocals and Bass, Jak – Guitar, and Jordan – Drums. It’s Rock N Roll but it’s Glam. Dynamic and Eclectic. Songs about Love, Lust, Life & all other four letter words. Raw and dirty music to touch your primal soul.

3. MADLIFE

http://www.madlifemusic.com

Angry Phill- Vocals, Isaiah- Guitar, and Kyle- Drums MADLIFE is advancing through 2012 with three major announcements. Their newest extolled single, “To Live and Die In Hollywood” debuted at #8 new adds on Media-base Active Rock Radio, quickly gaining momentum the second week climbing to #6. Secondly, they announced their endorsement deal with Schecter Guitars. Lastly, while gearing up for international touring, the highly anticipated 4th album, “21st Century Megalomaniac  is the next chapter in MADLIFE’s chronicles. Its unmistakable headway of innovative musical tonality irrefutably blends with the angry lyrical sonnets.

4. BLOODY HAMMERS

http://www.facebook.com/BloodyHammers

http://www.bloodyhammers.com/

Vocals, Bass: Anders Manga, Organ: Devallia, Guitar: Zoltan, and Drums: Curse. Bloody Hammers’ full length debut ‘Bloody Hammers’ is an explosion of heavy sound and infectious melodies. Propelled by singer Anders Manga’s captivatingly melodic vocals, ‘Bloody Hammers’ is a psych/hard rock/horror fan’s dream come true—a strong display of dooming riffs, crooning to soaring vocals and driving grooves. ‘Bloody Hammers’ is an addictive album with a retro edge that appeals to both the Nick Cave and the Black Sabbath sides of the brain. This is an absolute must-have for fans of the southern USA metal and dark hard rock scenes.”

5. CHASSIS

GET SOME – LOUDNESS

1980 Japan- found Akira Takasaki (guitars) and Munetaka Higuchi (drums) laying the ground work for the band which would become LOUDNESS. Adding Masayoshi Yamashita on bass and Minoru Niihara on vocals rounded out the lineup.

The band recorded four albums in their native Japan between 1980 and 1984. In 1985 Atco records woke up and signed them to an international record deal. Max Norman produced Thunder In The East which spawned the single “Crazy Nights”.

1986’s Lightning Strikes was once again produced by Max Norman as well. This release gave us the single “Let It Go” which put them in with the likes of Motley Crue and Ratt, flirting with their glam side.

1988 to 2001 brought lineup changes to the band. They released several more records in this time until tragedy struck in 2008. Original drummer  Munetaka Higuchi passed away from liver cancer at the age of 49. Rest In Peace my Rock N’ Roll brother.

LOUDNESS soldiered on and in 2009 hired Masayuki Suzuki as their new drummer. Masayuki stepped to the honor and did it justice.

LOUDNESS  continues to tour and record to this day. Making new music and paying homage to their songs of the past. Stronger than ever, the band is completely solid and impresses new fans as well as old. They released their latest album 2.0.1.2 in august of 2012.

HAVOK – A BAND THAT MADE ME SAY DAMN…

Sometimes a band impacts you, sometimes very hard. HAVOK accomplished this on me on 10/25/12 when I caught their live show. Straight out of the gate I was hooked. mid-set I went to their merch table and purchased their two CD’s POINT OF NO RETURN and TIME IS UP.

Formed in Colorado in 2004, the band put out two self-released discs and quickly garnered interest from UK label Candlelight records. BURN was released in 2009 bringing forth an onslaught of brutal guitar riffs, chest crushing bass lines, jackhammer drums, and vocals from the depths of hell itself! 2011 brought forth their second album TIME IS UPFront to back this CD smokes. One can really appreciate the technical skill put forth on this album. Remember the first time you heard Metallica, Exodus, Overkill, Anthrax, Testament, or Obituary? HAVOK takes you back with this one. They deliver the same “We will crush you to the ground” punch on this one. In 2012 HAVOK put out the EP POINT OF NO RETURNThough it only has four tracks (one of which pays homage to Slayer’s “Reigning Blood”) it satisfies your need for metal.

Listening to the CD’s gives one a chance to appreciate the technical prowess of HAVOK but it is their live show that will completely blow you away. Energetic, engaging, powerful are but only a few words to describe them live. You HAVE to see them live given the chance.

HAVOK is comprised of David Sanchez – Lead vocals / Guitars, Jesse De Los Santos – Lead bass / Vocals, Pete Webber – Lead drums, and Reece Scruggs – Lead guitar / Vocals. I was able to speak for a moment with Jesse and Reece about their performance. They were very humble and grateful to my words of praise for them. They graciously signed my newly purchased copy of TIME IS UP. It was a great evening.

In conclusion, I would like to thank HAVOK for carrying the torch of Thrash that their forefathers lit for them.

Be sure and check out their Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/HavokOfficial and their website: http://havokband.com/

SKELETONWITCH, HAVOK, MUTILATION RITES, SUSPENDED, FALL TO ASH – EL REY 10/25/12

Thanks to Prosthetic Records (http://prostheticrecords.com/) I was able to attend this show and was able to interview SKELETONWITCH and MUTILATION RITES here’s a show recap!

Local band FALL TO ASH opened the night of mayhem with a hard charging set of metal. A local NM band straight on a hard charging path to stardom check them out at  http://www.facebook.com/fallto.ash?fref=ts

We got a treat with SUSPENDED an all female trio of metal fury. This band surprises you at every turn with the sounds that they bring forth from their souls. Be sure and give them a listen. Here is their page link:  http://www.facebook.com/pages/Suspended/138495976185211?fref=ts

I was able to snag a quick video interview with MUTILATION RITES prior to the show (interview will be coming soon to http://rockunight.com/). Great guys that were awesome enough to spend a few minutes with me. They put on a great set of killer music. This was my first time catching them as they were newly introduced to me by Kelly Walsh from Prosthetic Records. Great set from a band that I will be listening to from now on. Make sure to check out their page: http://www.facebook.com/mutilationritesnyc?fref=ts

HAVOK was another band that was new to me, and I was pleasantly surprised. Reminding me of the early days of thrash metal this band took me back. Mid set I realized that I had to have their music and so I picked up the two CD’s they had at their merch table. Their stage show was energetic, engaging, and full of passion. I made it a point to speak with the guitarist and bassist and they proved to be approachable and grateful of the crowd response. These are links to their pages: http://www.facebook.com/HavokOfficial?fref=ts http://www.HAVOKband.com

SKELETONWITCH !!! I have been listening to them for several years now and seen them play before, and DAMN! this was the best yet. They dominated the stage from the first song and owned it till the final notes of the final song. I met with Scott Hedrick prior to the show and did a small video interview (which will be seen soon on http://rockunight.com/). I was able to watch some of the soundcheck which very cool to see. When they finally hit the stage they were spot on and super tight. They remembered some faces in the crowd from prior shows which I was glad to see that they were aware of their fans dedication. The new drummer, Dustin, fit in like a glove and totally owned his kit. Skeletonwitch is a band not to be missed. Like them on facebook: http://www.facebook.com/skeletonwitchmetal or on the web:  http://www.twitter.com/skeletonwitch http://www.skeletonwitch.com http://www.indiemerchstore.com/skeletonw… http://www.prostheticrecords.com

Here’s a bit live footage:

Thanks go out to the bands Fall To Ash, Suspended, Mutilation Rites, Havok, and Skeletonwitch.

Very special thanks to Kelly Walsh from Prosthetic Records!
